VPN Client Installation/Upgrade Instructions

For: Cisco Systems VPN Client Release 4.0+ February 2004

Important Notes - Please Read Before Continuing

Your VPN Account Should Have Already Been Created

You should have received an e-mail from the Hayes Support Center indicating your VPN account has been created. If you have not received this e-mail, call the Support Center at (850) 205-3430.

If Upgrading, Uninstall Previous Version of Client

Uninstall any previous version of the Cisco VPN Client. To uninstall, go to Start, Control Panel, and Add/Remove Programs. Find the entry labeled “VPN Client” (may also be listed as “Cisco Systems VPN Client”) and select Remove. During the uninstall process, you may be prompted to delete any existing digital certificates and connection profiles. Select “Yes”. After the uninstall process completes, restart your PC before continuing.

VPN Client Download

Download the VPN client from http://vpn.hcs.net/ , select >> Cisco VPN Client 4.6: vpnclient.exe and save it to a location you can easily find, such as the Desktop. Do not download the Cisco VPN Client from any other source, as it will not contain the customizations and will not be supported.

Compatible Windows Operating Systems

This version of VPN client software is compatible with the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows 98, or Windows 98 Second Edition
Windows ME
Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 6, or higher)
Windows 2000
Windows XP (Home or Professional Editions)

Note to Windows NT, 2000, and XP Users

Installing the VPN Client software on Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP requires Administrator privileges. If you do not have Administrator privileges, you must have someone with Administrator privileges install the product for you.

Internet Connectivity

Make sure your Internet connection is active and operational before attempting to install the VPN client. Certain parts of the configuration process require connectivity to the Internet.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. If you haven't done so already, download the VPN client from http://vpn.hcs.net/ , select >> Cisco VPN Client 4.6: vpnclient.exe, and save it to a location you can easily find, such as the Desktop.

2. Close all open windows and applications before continuing with the installation. Then, double-click on the vpnclient.exe icon to start the installation process.

3. Click Next.

4. Click Yes.

5. Click Next.

6. Click Next.

7. Click Finish to complete the installation and restart your computer.

8. After your PC restarts, click Start > Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client > VPN Client.

9. When the VPN Client starts, click on the Certificates tab.

10. Click the Enroll button.

11. Leave the Challenge Password and New Password fields blank. Click Next.

12. Fill out the fields for Name (First and Last), Company, State, and Email. Do not change any other fields (i.e. leave IP Address and Domain fields blank). Click Enroll.

13. Click OK.

14. Your certificate is now pending. It may take up to an hour for your certificate request to be reviewed and granted. You can also call the Hayes Support Center at (850) 205-3430 to follow up.

15. To check whether your certificate request has been approved, right-click the Certificate Request and select Retry Certificate Enrollment.

16. Leave blank. Click OK.

17. If your certificate has been granted you will see the message below. Click OK. (If you get an error it either means you typed the password incorrectly or your certificate request has not been approved. If it has been more than 1 hour since you submitted a certificate request, and your request still hasn't been approved, call the Hayes Support Center at (850) 205-3430.

18. Click the Connection Entries tab, then click on the State of Florida connection entry. Click the button labeled Modify.

19. Click the radio button next to Certificate Authentication. Make sure your Name appears in the box with (Cisco) appended to it. Click Save.

20. Click the Connect button.

21. Leave blank. Click OK.

22. Type the Username and Password provided by the Hayes Support Center. Click OK.

23. If you receive the message below, you have successfully connected to the State VPN Service. Click Continue. If you get an error, make sure you are typing your password correctly (also make sure CAPS LOCK is not on).

24. While connected to the State VPN, you may only access those resources specifically allowed by your VPN Policy.

25. To disconnect from the VPN Service, right click the small padlock icon in the System Tray and select Disconnect. If you do not disconnect properly, you will not be able to re-login until the manual timeout expires (15 minutes).
